Search for how many grams are in a cup of flour and you will get a confident number from every result on the page. Several of those numbers will disagree with each other. None of the pages will tell you why, and most will not say where their figure came from.

That is the whole reason this site exists. Every figure here traces to a named, checkable source: a USDA FoodData Central record with its ID, a published culinary reference with the specific chart named, and an independent third source that is not another baking chart. Where those three agree, the figure is published along with all three. Where they disagree by more than five percent, the entry stops rather than splitting the difference — an averaged number is one that no source supports.

Sometimes that means there is no answer to give. Flour is the clearest case: the three best sources measure three different filling methods, so the page shows all three and publishes none. A missing number is more useful than an invented one.

Who makes it

I am Nikola Dimovski, and I build things on my own. What I am good at is the unglamorous part: chasing a figure back to whoever first measured it, working out whether two sources are really independent or just copying each other, and writing down what I found either way. Most of the work on this site is reading standards documents and food databases so that nobody else has to.

I also built SwapGenie, an Android app that scans a grocery barcode and checks the ingredients against what you avoid. Same instinct, different end of the problem: this site is about how much is in the cup, that one is about what is in the packet.

There are no ads here and there never will be, no affiliate links, and no account needed to read anything. Nothing is sold to anyone.

If a figure here is wrong, if you know a source that would settle one of the withheld entries, or if there is an ingredient you keep having to look up and cannot find a straight answer for, tell me. A source I have not seen is worth more to this project than another page is. The sourcing rules and the full dataset are published on the data page so you can check my working.

SwapGenie
