Jasmine Rice: why 140 g per cup is wrong
USDA Branded (Jasmine Rice) publishes 140 g per US cup of jasmine rice. This site rejects that figure and publishes 185 g instead, from USDA SR Legacy (density 0.7819 g/mL, matching the composition of the substance). The reason:
140 g/cup is 22% below the lower American commercial cluster and 30% below the Asian-market cluster. Well outside milled tolerance in both directions. Inconsistent with any recognized jasmine rice product identity — likely a serving-convention error, a cooked-rice figure mislabeled as dry, or a distinct product (possibly instant or parboiled) mislabeled generically as jasmine.
The arithmetic
| Source | 1 cup | Density | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| USDA Branded (Jasmine Rice) | 140 g | 0.5918 g/mL | Rejected on physics |
| USDA SR Legacy | 185 g | 0.7819 g/mL | Published here |

Scan a grocery barcode, get a better version of the same thing.
I built SwapGenie for the problem this site cannot solve: the label. It reads a barcode, scores the product against your own allergens and diet rather than a generic grade, and suggests what to buy instead. Android now, iOS in progress.
SwapGenie is in closed testing, and the first 100 testers get 3 months of Pro free.
