Nutritional yeast: why 144 g per cup is wrong
USDA Branded (Bragg Nutritional Yeast Seasoning) publishes 144 g (5.1 oz) per US cup of nutritional yeast. This site rejects that figure. The sources it accepts put a cup at 44–128 g (1.6–4.5 oz), and it publishes that range rather than a single figure. The reason:
USDA GBFD entry contradicts Bragg's own printed nutrition label by 80%. Bragg's label consistently states 1 Tbsp = 5 g across every third-party nutrition database (ReciPal, Carb Manager, Fairway, Fresh Grocer, FatSecret, MyFoodData), giving 80 g/cup. The GBFD 144 g/cup is a data-submission error — likely the manufacturer submitted an inconsistent metric-cup value that did not reconcile with the household serving. No physical mechanism puts Bragg's Standard flakes at nearly twice their label density. The label-based 80 g/cup figure is used instead.
